ATRIAL SEPTAL DEFECTS .... these are holes in the curtain of the heart . Precisely , in the curtain of the upper segment ( chambers ) of the heart . They can close up till 8-10 years of age . But if they do not close naturally, they need to be repaired surgically.
Else, they can cause a shunt and can raise the pressures of the lungs .
