Up untill now we were used to cutting open the chest and implanting the prosthetic heart valves. Now we have the option of implanting the newer generation heart valves , also termed as TEVAR ( Total Endovascular Aortic Valve implantation ). A bit expensive though , but this technology is readily available to our patients and this can be done more like an angiographic procedure . Much beneficial for elderly , fragile patients and also those who have already undergone valve replacements earlier too.
